Energetic Medicine…An overview of some techniques

Vibrational medicine

The Benefits of Energetic Medicine

Have you ever felt out of sorts but couldn’t quite put your finger on why?  Perhaps an energetic medicine treatment would do you the world of good.  The therapies in energetic medicine allow you to reconnect with your body’s own innate energy systems, bringing them back into harmony and rebalancing them.

Clear your mind of past traumas by using core energetics, or use the healing power of colour in order to heal your body and stimulate your energy centres.  Even your environment has an effect on your energy so ensure that you are living in the most positive environment possible by using Feng Shui.

Energetic medicine is fantastic as many of the therapies are completely non-invasive and only do as much as you are comfortable with at any given time.  For example, Reiki is a pure energy treatment that can be given without necessarily having to touch the body!  By freeing the energy in your body, whether it is contained in the muscles, in the cerebrospinal fluid, or in the subtle unseen energy systems, you are freeing yourself from negative emotions, enhancing your health in general, and inviting fresh, new positive energy into your life.  Who wouldn’t love that?

Colour Therapy

Colour therapy uses the seven colours of the spectrum in order to stimulate the body’s healing process while also balancing and enhancing the body’s energy centres, known as chakras.  Each one of the seven colours coexists with one of the main chakras.  If one of the chakras is unbalanced, using the appropriate colour on the body can help to rebalance the chakra.  This therapy can be used to treat both physical and emotional problems. The colour may come in the form of coloured light, massage using colour saturated oils, visualising colours, wearing coloured clothing or eating coloured foods.

Core Energetics

Core energetics builds upon disciplines such as psychology, psychoanalysis, characterology, psychodynamics, Reichian therapy, and bio-energetics, and it works on the boy, mind, energy, and soul system in order to access and clear unconscious childhood traumas.  This therapy is capable of healing the deep seated causes of things such as depression, addiction, insomnia, relationship problems, and even physical illnesses.  Grounding methods are used in core energetics to ensure that the therapy remains safe.  The client learns how to direct their own energy and consciousness so that they can take full responsibility for their power.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a hands on healing technique, where the therapist will mobilize and release the craniosacral system.  This therapy focuses on cerebrospinal fluid, in particular, the irregularities in the flow of the fluid.  The movement of the spinal fluid within and around the nervous system creates a vital bodily rhythm which is as important to the body as is the heartbeat or the breathing rate.  This is a non-intrusive therapy that improves general wellbeing, reduces stress, and improves sleep, amongst other things.

Crystal Therapy

Crystal therapy uses semiprecious and precious stones to enhance mental, spiritual and physical healing.  The therapy is based on the belief that certain crystals and gems possess energy that can positively affect imbalances in the human energy fields, thus promoting health and wellbeing.  Stones are placed around the body or on specific energy points and the person accepts the vibrations that the stone has to offer, whether consciously or unconsciously.  The interaction between the stone’s vibrations and the vibration of the body triggers a series of responses, including the creation of spontaneous energy.

Emotional Freedom Technique

The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is based on the theory that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.  Certain energy points are stimulated on the face, hands, and upper torso, while the patient is “tuned in” to the problem.  Relief from a problem is achieved with little to no pain and tapping sequences are often taught so that the patient is able to handle emotional issues on their own when they arise.

Energy Healing

Energy healing is designed to restore the harmony, energy, and balance within the human energy field through the medium of touch.  The specific touch used will influence the energy system.  It is a gentle and non-invasive technique in which a practitioner’s hands are used clear, energise and balance energy fields.

Feng Shui

Feng Shui is the Chinese art of manipulating the environment in order to attract positive life energy or Chi.  People are affected by their environments, whether positively or negatively, and this translates to all areas of a person’s life.  By simply placing objects in the ideal position, Chi can flow smoothly throughout the area, and bring positive things to a person’s life.  Health will be better, finances will be easier, and relationships will be more fulfilling.

Kinesiology

Kinesiology combines muscle testing and monitoring with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine in order to assess energy and body function.  Gentle, yet powerful, healing techniques are applied in order to improve health, wellbeing, and vitality.  There are many different types of kinesiology but all kinesiologists will use manual muscle testing in their work.  By testing the function of the muscles, they are able to see the body’s overall state of structural balances.  As well as this, they also realise that there are flows of energy within the body that not only relate to the muscles but also to every tissue and organ in the body.

Magnetic Field Therapy

Magnetic field therapy uses magnetic devices that are placed on or near the body in order to relieve pain and facilitate healing.  The magnetic fields generated by the magnets are able to penetrate the body and affect the functioning of cells, and improve the working of the nervous system and various organs.  How the magnets work exactly is still unknown.  This is a therapy that is usually used to relieve pain.

Polarity Therapy

Polarity therapy heals by activating Chi energy and balancing the natural life force energy fields around the body.  This therapy believes that the body is bipolar in its function and action and if the energy is blocked, restricted or unbalanced in any way, then disease or pain will result.  There are four main techniques used in polarity therapy – bodywork, diet, yoga exercises, and self awareness.  Polarity therapy can be used on its own or in conjunction with other therapies, and is very relaxing and non invasive.

Reiki

Reiki means “universal life force energy” and it aims to improve health as well as the quality of life.  It is a pattern of hand positions that rest without any pressure on or above the body and reiki is pure energy.  This therapy treats the whole person, and brings about feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing.  It is a treatment that anyone can use, and it is simple, natural and safe.  Reiki also improves the results of all medical treatments, reducing negative side effects, shortening recovery times, and reducing stress.

SFEF Kinesiology

SFEF kinesiology uses Chinese medicine, western kinesiology and other concepts to create a healing tool that can help with many illnesses and disorders.  It balances the physical, emotional, chemical, and electrical systems in the body, listening to the body as the body knows what it needs in order to function healthily.  SFEF kinesiology uses both manual and energetic techniques to restore and maintain health.  This therapy thinks of the body as a communication system, and it is necessary to clear the disruptions in the communication system in order to allow the body to restore internal harmony and external health.

Touch for Health

Touch for health is a type of kinesiology that restores the body to its natural state of health.  It uses muscle monitoring combined with Chinese medicine in order to diagnose and correct energy imbalances in the body.  Touch for health is able to improve a person’s postural balance and reduce physical and mental pain, and also tension.  It is very good for correcting the imbalances brought about by a busy life.

Are you gluten intolerant?

What is Gluten Intolerance Anyway?

A gluten intolerance is a recognised food intolerance, also known as coeliac / celiac disease, or tropical sprue / nontropical sprue. It is often inherited, or you can be unlucky and be born with it. If it is not diagnosed as an infant, it will only worsen as you get older. It is basically a disease in which you cannot absorb a protein found in food known as gluten. Gluten is found in food types such as:

  • Wheat
  • Rye
  • Barley
  • OatsGluten is actually a protein derivative of wheat and of those grains that appear tough and elastic in quality. So basically your body is allergic to this protein called gluten contained in the above named foods.

What does this allergy do to your body?

If you are allergic to gluten, this protein will react with the lining in your intestines (called the ‘villi’) damaging them by causing the lining to ‘atrophy’ (get smaller). This damage then restricts the absorption of other foods eaten, and can cause a variety of symptoms, which include:

  • Diarrhea (probably the most major symptom).
  • Anaemia (from poor iron absorption), along with low Vitamin B12 absorption.
  • Weight loss (that may sound good for some, but in this disease it’s not).
  • Bloating
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Breathlessness

    What is Homeopathy?

    Homeopathy pillules

Homeopathy is an effective system of healing which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It recognises that symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment not the disease.

In 1796, a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, discovered a different approach to the cure of the sick which he called homeopathy (from the Greek words meaning ’similar suffering’). Like Hippocrates two thousand years earlier, he realised there were two ways of treating ill health: the way of opposites, most commonly used by conventional medicine and the way of similars.

Hahnemann discovered that diluting and succussing (shaking) remedies, which homeopaths call potentisation, not only produced fewer side effects but also produced better results. Homeopathic remedies are drawn from the natural world and prescribed on the principle of treating “like with like” or the way of similars.

    What is “like with like”?
Take for example, a case of insomnia. The way of opposites is to treat this by giving a drug to bring on an artificial sleep. This frequently involves the use of large or regular doses of drugs which can sometimes cause side effects or addiction.

The way of similars, the homeopathic way, is to give the patient a minute dose of a substance, such as coffee, which in large doses causes sleeplessness in a healthy person. This can then help the patient to sleep naturally. Of course, this is a simplified example. Homeopathy is patient-centred and a homeopath will prescribe based on the totality of your symptoms and how you, as an individual, experience them. This also takes account of you as a person – your individual characteristics, both emotional and physical.

    How does it work?
Scientists cannot yet explain the precise mechanism of action for homeopathy but there is published evidence of its efficacy. It is believed that homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s own healing abilities and that this stimulus assists your own system to clear itself of any expressions of imbalance.

How long has Homeopathy been used?
Homeopathy has been used in the UK for over two hundred years, but has an honourable tradition dating back to ancient Greece. It was Samuel Hahnemann, a brilliant doctor working in 1796 who developed the scientific and philosophical foundations of this gentler way of healing. These scientific principles form the basis of successful homeopathic practice today.

    Are homeopathic remedies safe?
Homeopathic remedies are a unique, potentised energy medicine, drawn from the plant, mineral and animal worlds. They are diluted to such a degree that not one molecule of the original substance can be detected (after the 12c potency).

They work by gently boosting the natural energy of the body, and are very safe, even for pregnant and sensitive patients. There is no danger of addiction or toxicity.

    How are the remedies made?

The raw extracts (from plants or animals) or triturations (from minerals and salts) are made into a ‘tincture’ with alcohol which forms the basis of the dilution procedure. Dilutions are made up to either 1 part tincture to 10 parts water (1x) or 1 part tincture to 100 parts water (1c). Repeated dilution results in the familiar 6x, 6c or 30c potencies that can be bought over the counter: the 30c represents an infinitessimal part of the original substance.

If they are so dilute, how can they work?
After each dilution the mixture is vigorously agitated in a machine that delivers a calibrated amount of shaking. This is called succussion. It is thought that this process imprints the healing energy of the medicinal substance throughout the body of water (the diluent) as if a message is passed on. The message contains the healing energy. Even in ultra-molecular dilutions, information specific to the original dissolved substance remains and can be detected.

    What can homeopathy treat?

Homeopathy has a wide application, from acute fevers, sore throats and toothache, to chronic illnesses such as arthritis, eczema, asthma, anxiety, mild depression and chronic fatigue syndrome. There has been some very good research evidence to support this.

Homeopathy can be safely used alongside most conventional medicines.

A quick look at the five elements

    5elementsWater
Just like a great river, water has enormous power combined with tremendous softness. Water prevails without doing, just by being itself. ‘Water’ houses the will. The emotion associated with this element is Courage & conversely Fear if this element is weak, The bones are the related tissue. Weakness in this element can cause lower back pain and sore knees. Controls reception of qi, memory and concentration. Energy flows up the water channels and the legs and back (Bladder, Kidney) from your root in the earth at the bubbling spring point (K-1). People may lose control of the bladder in times of great fear as the qi suddenly descends.
    Sense organ – the ears

    Wood
Like bamboo ‘Wood’ has flexibility. It controls judgement & strategy. This element houses the ethereal soul which gives direction in life. The emotion of ‘Wood’ is Anger. In people with long term Anger you may see two vertical furrows between the eyebrows. ‘Wood’ controls the sinews (ligaments and tendons) and ensures the free flow of qi.
    Sense organ – the eyes

    Fire
Our Shen (mind or consciousness) is housed by ‘Fire’ which also governs the blood and blood vessels. ‘Fire’ is linked with sensitivity, relationship to oneself and toward others. The triple heater channel or meridian of the ‘Fire’ element distributes original qi (chi that you are born with) and its energy radiates in all directions. The sense organ of the ‘Fire’ element is the tongue.

    Earth
Very central parts of the body such as the waist fall under the influence of this pivotal element. Its functions include transforming. It houses another aspect of the mind – the yi (focus and intellect), Imbalances here can lead to or be caused by worry which knots the qi. ‘Earth’ controls the raising and descending of qi, sinking & connection with the earth. It also ‘dominates’ the muscles and the limbs providing nourishment to the body.
    Sense organ – the mouth

    Metal (air)

Element which governs the exterior – defence, boundaries, skin, taking in and letting go. It governs qi and controls breathing. ‘Metal’ houses the ‘po’ (animal nature). I suspect that ‘Opening’ and ‘Closing’ in the form are part of the ‘Metal’ element.
    Sense organ – the nose
